My darling girls

Just a hurried note to tell you we came out of PHU THU we were hit last night at 11.30PM.

We held - it got a bit messy a couple of times but they were pushed out of the camp and, my sgt was wounded - not badly. Anyway at first light Col Graeser flew in with Col KHOA and ordered the outpost to be evacuated until it could be properly rebuilt and they are pulling in a battalion to defend their Engineer company that will rebuild it so they don't need advisers until it is finished and they have the advisory team with the bn. Also there is a ton of work to do back here and I have to write a defence plan and a reinforcement plan for every district HQ in THUA THIEN by the 21st. I've also got GEN DALY due in on FRI 17 - live never gets dull. Looking back on it the attack had its funny moments. I had CAPT GARCY with me and Sgt ALVERADO - Garcy is a new lad but a good steady kid. and at one stage he was firing his M79 from the front window while I was working from the back window with the AK and he yelled out "Sir didn't you say these grenades don't explode at less than 30 yds - well they are only at 15 what will I do?" To which he got the answer "It doesn't matter if they don't explode just knock bloody big holes through them which he did - he's a good lad. Alverado did well until his BAR got a round through the shoulder - nothing drastic. We had 4 dead 4 wounded from the 25 vietnamese we had in the compound, so we did a little better than last time. Any way I'm back to polishing a chair for a while. Found a nice letter waiting for me. I'm terribly pleased that Kedgy? is on the mend again poor old pet. Jan Donaldson sounds ghastly I do hope they don't come to SC with us. Your sewing sounds good. I don't know how you get the time little pet with all the other things you have going. You're doing a wonderful job my darling and I'm very very proud of you. Graeser is serious about coming out - as a civvie in 3 years when his 30 years is up. The Herald did arrive and was much appreciated. Trust Susy to be suspicious of the little fury? You don't put anything over on our Susie. It's a pity Brownies was mucked up but its one less chore for you and you seem to have enough. Must go back to work now my darling as there is a devil of a lot to do.

Just take care of yourselves and remember that a Petie loves you and the little sweeties more than I could ever tell you. Time is running by now 2/3 over. I love you my Niesi

Petie
