We acknowledge we are on Kaurna Miyurna land. The Dreaming is still living. From the past, in the present, into the future, forever.

The fair will be held over two days in the Museum precinct on 28-29 June, and celebrate the blockbuster Treasures of the Viking Age: the Galloway Hoard exhibition.

The free event is the biggest of its kind to be hosted by the museum.

Market stalls will be selling various medieval fare, from costumes and textiles, woodwork, leathercraft, longbows, forged items, jewellery, replica weaponry, and of course delicious locally-brewed mead.

The Museum’s own café and gift shop will also be open.

Visitors will be able to enjoy medieval combat exhibitions, re-enactments, axe throwing, and a broad range of medieval-themed music and entertainment, including the famous Inferno fire show.

There will also be a medieval costume competition, and a Viking beard competition each day.

For those willing to stick their neck out, there will be photo opportunities in a fully functioning replica wooden stock, used in medieval times to restrain and punish criminals.

Many of the activities will be held on the lawn in front of the Museum on North Terrace, but entertainment and the tavern, along with a delicious spit roast, will be open to the public in the square behind the Museum.

Inside the Museum visitors can visit the Treasures of the Viking Age: the Galloway Hoard exhibition, search for buried objects in our dig pits, pick up the LEGO trail and listen to talks by South Australian archaeologists and historians.

The Museum will also host three Friday night themed events leading up to VikingFest; Music and Mead on 6 June, Winter Weaving and Leather Working on 13 June, and the Galloway Jewellery Jam featuring Jam Factory Jewellers on 20 June.

All VikingFest events are proudly supported by the Adelaide Economic Development Agency and are free to attend.

With immersive experiences and unforgettable moments across the city this winter, this is no time to hibernate. Adelaide’s festival season is just warming up. Plan your season of winter adventures at ExperienceAdelaide.com.au/Winter.

Tickets to the Treasure of the Viking Age: the Galloway Hoard exhibition, which runs until 27 July, are $25. Concessions are available.

The exhibition is expected to sell out and the public are urged to pre-purchase tickets online.

VikingFest promises to be a truly spectacular event for the whole family.

We know medieval themed events like VikingFest are extremely popular around the country, but we also hope to attract the curious and the young.

The event will also be a great opportunity to visit Treasure of the Viking Age: the Galloway Hoard exhibition. Time is definitely running out to catch a glimpse of medieval Britian before the exhibition closes at the end of next month.
