14 Pieces, a sculptured fountain that sits out the front of the South Australian Museum was commissioned by the Adelaide City Council and created by Hossein in collaboration with his wife, Angela.

The works organic and textural forms are based on the opalised fossilised vertebrae of the Ichthyosaur found in the Opal Fossils Gallery of the Museum.

The fountain represents “notions of excavation, reconstruction and conservation”. The constantly recycled water signifies the passing of time.

Brian Oldman, Director of the South Australian Museum said his thoughts go out to Hossein’s family and friends.

“This certainly is devastating news for all that knew Hossein. I am glad his memory can live on through his incredible art for generations to come.”
