EXTREME Antarctica!

How do animals and humans survive in sub-zero polar conditions?


Join us in the Discovery Centre to learn the tricks of adapting to EXTREME climates. Hear tales of adventure and curious facts from SA Museum scientists about Antarctica and the creatures that call it home. Then get hands on with the Discovery Centre team for some polar themed making!


Ideal for ages 5-15 years. Adults are required to stay near the Discovery Centre entry for the duration of the program.


All materials provided. Places are limited, bookings are required!

Dates: Monday 24, Tuesday 25, Thursday 27 and Friday 28 January 2022

Times: 10.30am – 12pm and 1pm – 2.30pm

Cost:

Make Your Own Snow Globe

Get crafty these school holidays and make your own Antarctic-inspired snow globe.


In celebration of the world premiere of Thin Ice VR at the South Australian Museum, come along to this fun facilitated 60-minute workshop and learn how to create your own miniature snowy world using materials found in nature and at home.

Ideal for ages 5-15 years. Adults are required to stay with their children for the duration of the program.


Places are limited, bookings are required!

Flippin’ Fridays

Start your weekends off right this January and chill out at the South Australian Museum at night! All ages welcome!

Come along and experience the Antarctic like never before in our award-winning virtual reality experience, Thin Ice VR. Enjoy free family films on the front lawn, music, and Antarctic-inspired food and drinks that will have you saying ‘cool!’.

Films are FREE and will start at 7:30pm. Bookings required for Thin Ice VR. Food and drinks available for purchase, card only.

Professor Flint’s Antarctic Adventure

Oh no! Nobby the Penguin is lost and needs help finding his way home!


Join Professor Flint on a guided adventure through the South Australian Museum and help our small flippered friend return to his Antarctic abode. Along the way explore some of the amazing and extreme environments that animals like penguins (and even humans!) call home.

Ideal for ages 5-12 years. Adults are required to stay with their children for the duration of the program.

Frozen in 3D: The Antarctica Challenge

ALL SESSIONS POSTPONED

Have you ever wondered how humans can work and live in some of the coldest places on Earth?


In celebration of the world premiere of Thin Ice VR at the South Australian Museum, you're invited to come along to a 90-minute interactive workshop and meet scientists who have been to Antarctica. Learn their tricks for surviving in cold harsh conditions and then design your own 3D avatar who is ready to live in the extremes of nature. Try out Makers Empire’s 3D modelling software and create your own object to pack for below zero living.

This program is presented in partnership with Makers Empire.

Ideal for ages 8-13 years. Adults are required to stay with their children for the duration of the program.

Places are limited, bookings are required!

Tracing the Anthropocene
