Rawlinson Range (WA) Expedition 1963

Supplementary to: 'Journal of Visit to the Rawlinson Range area in the Great Western Desert by Norman B. Tindale. 24 October - 25 November 1963', AA 338/1/26

This series contains restricted material.

This item consists of magnetic tape recordings of restricted ceremonies, songs, narratives, and discussions on social structure. They were made by Norman B Tindale in 1963 during a Board for Anthropological Research expedition to the Rawlinson Range in Western Australia. Recordings were also made at Mount Davies and Cave Hill in neighbouring South Australia.

The contents descriptions given below were taken from Tindale's handwritten annotations on the tape boxes, and are therefore brief. Fuller details of the recordings are found in the S. A. Museum Speech and Sound Collections register (relevant 'AS' reference numbers are listed below) and in the pages of Tindale's expedition field journal: 'Journal of Visit to the Rawlinson Range area in the Great Western Desert by Norman B. Tindale. 24 October - 25 November 1963', AA 338/1/26.

Note that the abbreviation 'AN' in the list below, which identifies the Rawlinson Range expedition with the Board for Anthropological Research, was not always used by Tindale.

The Rawlinson Range series includes the following magnetic tapes:
