This series comprises mansucript material that contained data relating to distribution and culture of Australian Aboriginal people which was subsequently published in Tindale's 'Aboriginal Tribes of Australia', 1974. The manuscripts are listed in the Reference section for each 'tribe' in the 'Catalog of Australian Aboriginal Tribes'.

In the Inventory descriptions, Tindale's preferred spelling of Tindale Tribes are denoted in square brackets.
